Ahhh, Paris…. the city of lights! Feels lovely to be back here – in August, with beautiful weather. I’m always entranced by all the old, majestic buildings and gorgeous architecture. Paris is a great place to land in or jump off to other areas of Europe, and we did just that, on a Thalys train from Paris Nord (Gare Nord) Station. You can sign up for a free Thalys card online, and get into the Thalys lounge for free, located in the building next to the train station. The lounge is comfortable with free wi-fi, clean bathrooms, espresso, juice, water and other coffee drinks (no snacks), and there is a quaint little courtyard view from the lounge:
There is so much to enjoy in Paris! I haven’t had the best luck in choosing good restaurants in this city, though. Despite trying some highly rated restaurants, I can’t get used to the heavy sauces. There are definitely some gems that I have found – including this one – Le Grenier Au Pain – near Sacre Coeur, which serves up some of the most delectable croissants and baked goods, including sandwiches (lunch time only) to take on a picnic (no seating available).
We spent our last night in Europe in Paris (after an 1 and a half hour flight to CDG from Zurich) at the W hotel Paris Opera. Our “Marvelous” Suite was right across from the Opera House – what a great view!
We had a good dinner a short walk away from the W at Sanukiya – authentic Japanese Udon and side dishes, and the SPG Platinum breakfast at the W hotel restaurant, “Colette” – yummy french croissants, quiches, fresh squeezed orange juice and espresso… and then a walk to the Galleries Lafayette for a little shopping…
We headed to Orly West Hall 3 to board our British Airways Open Skies Biz Bed flight, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that they opened an Open Skies lounge in Hall 3 to the right after security, so we were able to relax, go online and have some snacks and drinks before boarding. Biz passengers were previously told to go to a different Hall quite a distance and through security to go to the Iberia Lounge (not a great lounge and not worth it) so this was a nice surprise.
Our time in Paris was short but lovely!
